The below was shared by The City of Weston, although it affects all municipalities that get water from Sunrise.
From June 28, 2010 through July 26, 2010, the Sunrise Utility Department, which provides water to the City of Weston, will use “free” chlorine in the drinking water treatment system to provide additional protection against bacteria. Free chlorination is a process that cleanses the water purification system and protects against bacteria getting into the system.
This temporary treatment of the water system is a common practice for water suppliers that use a chlorine (chloramine) water treatment method. This periodic program is mandated by the Broward County Health Department.
The procedure does not cause any adverse health effects. However, some individuals may notice a slight change in the taste, odor or color of the water during this time.
